Re: Did you see the Great man play?
Like the OP, I've seen him play but sadly I don't remember it. 1975 FA Cup Final for Fulham. I was too young to appreciate who he was, even though my dad probably bored me to death with it at the time, but at least I can say I have seen him.

Saw him play hundreds of times. From the youth team and up.
Played against him three times. (Cricket) Brian Dear too. He was a wicket keeper.

My first West Ham game was in Southampton at the Dell...Bobby Moore played and Trevor Brooking scored ...that's all I can remember...the next time was at Upton Park on the day the new East Stand (Chicken Run) was opened,we were playing Manchester United with Charlton,Best and Law..it was a 0-0 draw but I can remember lots more about the day..the British Legion brass band and the old boy waving to the North Bank when the team were coming out...the two blonde women who used to stand behind the North Bank goal with their scarves hanging over the wall and the smell of roasted chestnuts on the way out...a big day for a 13 year old from the depths of Berkshire !!

Yup luckily saw him and Hursty.... for a young 4 year old he was one of the easier players to spot with his mop of blonde hair.... Clyde Best was also easy to spot for obvious reasons....

Re: Did you see the Great man play?
I remember seeing him play at Craven Cottage and an old tosser called Tosh Chamberlain seemed to take offence at the way Bobby was taking the ball off him every time and started ankle tapping him on the last occasion Bobby took the ball off him showboated by running rings round him then gobbed in his eye

"Many times...from his first game ...until I left UK in late '73..."

Me much the same (started going to UP March '58): though at least I waited until Bobby had moved onto Fulham before leaving the country! So, saw the vast majority of his games at home, but not many away.

Anyone know why he would have played in a cov side before the cup final that year?

Re: Did you see the Great man play?
Blimey, makes me feel young reading this

Not that young though as I too saw him and here is a thing, in the days pre line up on the pitch the teams used to just come out of the tunnel, no shit

You always knew when we were coming as the ball came first in the air looping from the west side, Bobby volley ball style, would under arm bat it out - one sight of that and the cheer went up, the players lead by the man would then appear between the standing lower west side terrace

Also as someone else said, he had an edge, when his dander was up he could look after himself, funny thing was, the crowd knew it too, often before the source of his ire did and then wallop, ever so slightly late, perfect timing as always, ball first then a barrel chest or oxen thigh would hit home.

Youngsters be in no doubt, he could really play that man, really play and would be utterly priceless in today's game of footballing CB's

The best player ever to play for West Ham by a mile. It's just a shame the way he left and how little respect he got when playing on the opposite side at Wembley.

Saw him many times.

Including against Luton in the FA Cup when they put Bobby out.

My hatred of Luton is not irrational

Re Madeeasy.
It was actually a part of the Cup Final build up on ITV. Jimmy Tarbuck captained one team (he was a drinking pal of Moore hence the invitation) that played in Coventry kit.
David Frost team played in Spurs kit. Daley Thompson scored a couple of decent goals and looked like he would've been a useful footballer. It's probably on YouTube
Ray Winstone got a runout as I recall.

Best and Marsh were great as well. One of my first games ever. My dad, uncle Harry and me had tickets for QPR-Man Utd but that got postponed so we over to the cottage.

I remember watching the 75 Cup Final as an 8 year old.
My old man took me to Fulham a couple of years later to watch his last but one league game (last in London) against Orient.

I just want to take issue with you about your claim that Bobby Moore gobbed in Tosh Chamberlains eye.
Having watched Bobby play in at least 250 games and spoken to him on a number of occasions, I can categorically state that he would never have done such a thing. It would have been totally out of character.
And for you to come on this site to tarnish his good name by making up such garbage is disgusting.

BAN THIS CUNT.

had a photo of Bobby and his wife, sitting at a table with my mum and dad in a club from years ago.

My ol' ma said he was a bit flash.

He had a shop near the ground that became a greengrocers.

Many times in the 1960's. I also remember him playing for England as a young player in the 1962 World Cup in Chile.

Fuck me, just had a thought about that

The Booby Moore sports shop, a converted house to the left opposite the main entrance in Green St, if that became a greengrocer then that is the place that became a florist I bought my floral tribute from the morning after the night before that I heard he had passed - never joined the dots on that
